在二十世纪七十年代末为瑞典赚取外汇第一位的是老牌汽车制造商VOLVO（沃尔沃）， 而第二大户则是一支名为ABBA(阿巴合唱团)的流行摇滚乐队，准确的说，他们的舞曲是最棒的，ABBA成立于1973 年，他们让瑞典音乐走向国际。他们的舞曲风格至今被认为是难以超越的，他们凭着美语这门第二语言在英美的歌曲榜上取得了让人羡慕的成绩，拥有众多冠军单曲。成员是比扬·乌尔维斯（Bjorn）、班尼·安德林（Benny）、阿格尼莎·法尔茨考格（Agnetha）和尼弗利德林斯迈德（Annifrid），两位姑娘和两位小伙子，又恰恰是搭档和情侣，乐队的名字就取自他们四人名字的第一各字母。
